About Me

My name is Angela Sabal and I am looking forward to introducing you to the exciting field of permanent makeup and medical/cosmetic tattooing. Before discussing permanent makeup, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and why I have chosen to pursue this exciting and rewarding profession.

I began my nursing studies at a college in California and ultimately transferred to a state university in New York where I earned a degree in Nursing and became a licensed, Registered Nurse. Throughout my fifteen year career, I worked in a variety of specialty fields ranging from Neonatal Intensive Care to Geriatrics where I truly enjoyed helping people in all stages of life. In 1998, my family moved to Pretoria, South Africa where I worked as a MEDEVAC nurse for the U.S. Embassy. This job allowed me to meet area physicians and surgeons who introduced me to the art of permanent makeup and cosmetic tattooing as it applied to the medical field.

I began researching the procedure and discovered that permanent makeup is actually dual purposed. First, cosmetic tattooing can be used for a number of medical aesthetic purposes that include camouflaging a clef lip, scar on an eyebrow or by creating a nipple/areola on a cancer survivor after a mastectomy and breast reconstruction. The second use is for general beautification including the application of permanent lipstick, eyeliner and eyebrows. With interest piqued, I began a lengthy apprenticeship with a permanent makeup artist in South Africa. After experiencing the reactions of many grateful and satisfied clients, I began to transition from traditional nursing into permanent makeup and medical tattooing.

Upon returning to the United States, I attended permanent makeup training programs in Southern California and also trained with a respected and renowned tattoo artist in Tampa, Florida. During my Advanced School of Permanent Cosmetics training, I learned the skillful art of implanting pigment directly into the dermal layer of the skin using the double coil tattoo machine, which is the same machine used by traditional tattoo artists. In order to perfect the delicate techniques required for cosmetic tattooing, I spent countless hours practicing on pig's ears before transitioning to human skin.

I am State Board Certified and currently hold both nursing and tattoo licenses in the State of Virginia. I am a member of the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP), Permanent Makeup Society International (PMSI) and Conventional and Cosmetic Tattoo Association (CCTA). I strictly adhere to OSHA standards and have up-to-date certification in Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid and CPR. Further, I only use cosmetic pigments from manufacturers endorsed by The Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals and always use new and individually packaged sterile needles.

In 2001, I opened the Artistic Beauty Permanent Makeup Clinic in Occoquan, Virginia and have served Northern Virginia for over 12 years. I have had clients from across America and I have practiced in the United States, Africa and the Middle East. In 2012, I moved my business from Occoquan to Stafford, Virginia where I live with my husband, a retired military officer, and our 11 year old daughter.

In all, I joined the medical profession because I am compassionate and caring and really enjoy helping others. I decided to pursue cosmetic tattooing to explore my artistic side and found that I am able to help people through my art. Whether I am feathering in eyebrows lost from chemotherapy treatment, tattooing eyeliner on someone with poor eyesight or artistically creating the illusion of a 3D nipple/areola on a cancer survivor who has undergone a mastectomy, or breast reconstruction, I derive great satisfaction from what I am able to do for others and, in a sense, give back what time or illness has taken away.

I look forward to meeting you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
